Question:

After reciting dua e qunoot do I say Allahu akbar and then go into ruku or should I leave it out? I always say Takbir before and after qunoot. Is this ok?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Witr Salah is the Wajib opponent of prayer that is prayed after Esha. It is 3 rakats with one salaam.

The following are the conditions of Witr:

  • In each Rakat of Witr, it’s Wajib to pray Surah Fatihah and another Surah
  • Sit at the end of the second Rakat and recite only tashahhud
  • In the third Rakat, do not recite the Thana (1)

As these are the only extra conditions of Witr, the rest of the prayer would be similar to the other five daily prayers.

Consider the following that discusses the ritual of going into ruku’:

“Imam Shurunbulali says: one is to say Allahu Akbar and move downwards into the bowing position.” (2)

Hence, the Takbirs of each movement will remain the same and you will recite Takbir as you descend to ruku after Qunoot. The method you have adopted is correct and you may continue with this method.

Only Allah knows best
