Question

Why is the Quran written in Arabic?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are many reasons why the Quran was revealed in Arabic. Some of the reasons that are mentioned in the commentaries of the Quran are:

  • The Quran was revealed in the Arabic language as that was the language the Arabs spoke. Many places in the Quran Allah, the Highest, says that “Indeed we have revealed upon you Arabic Quran so that you may understand.” Had the Quran been revealed in any other language then the companions would not be able to understand it.
  • The language of Arabic is the most comprehensive and complete language. The depths of the Arabic language are very vast. It’s been mentioned that this is the language that was spoken by Adam AS in Jannah and this will be the language that we will speak when we return back to Jannah. Most of the time one word in the Arabic language gives such a deep meaning that it takes a full sentence to really translate it properly.[1]
