Is It Permissible to Throw Away Papers With the Name of Allah on Them

Question:

If someone has a card with their name Abdullah in Arabic. Would it suffice to cross out or draw a line over the Allah part until it is indiscernible and then get rid of the card?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If the books are no longer needed, one should wipe away the names of Allah, His Angels, and His Messengers, and burn the rest. There is also nothing wrong with putting them into a river and/or burying them. Burying them is better.[i]

So, if you want to remove the name from the card, the best thing would be

  1. Wrap it in a clean and pure cloth and bury it in a place where people generally do not pass.
  2. Cast them into flowing water.
  3. Lastly, the card or literature may be burnt, but in this case, only after erasing the names of Allah, His Angels, and His Messengers.

Only Allah knows best
