Reading Quran for the Deceased

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

Assalamualaikum. I want to ask about something I’m confused about. I heard that we shouldn’t read the Quran on the deceased person. Is it true?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Reciting the Quran and gifting the reward of the recitation to a deceased person is permissible. There are multiple Ahadith mentioning the virtue of reciting Surah Al-Fatiha, Yaseen, At-Takathur, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falq and An-Naas for the deceased person and that the recitation of these Surahs benefits them.[1]

Only Allah Ta’ala knows best.
