What is the maximum amount of time for fasting?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
is there a limit on the time that we have to fast, because here in the uk, the fast is over 16 hours and my children find this hard. is there a fatwa on this please? a student from delhi told us that there is a fatwa on the time limit to fasting,i.e after 12 hours you may open the fast. Is this true? we have never heard this before.

Answer

(Fatwa: 1784/1437/D=1430)

There is only one limit for all places, which is mentioned in the Quran that sawm should continue from appearance of true dawn to the sunset.

There may be difference as per the season and place, so if the day is 16 hour long in your country, you should keep the full day from rise of true dawn to sunset. What the student said is baseless and unauthentic.
