Can I use interest to pay for an extra semester of fees?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I have completed my graduation course of engineering of four years and in that I was punished of 1 year drop in the second year first semester end because of copy case from university and so my 4th semester I have not studied at all in my college and I asked to refund the tuetion and all other fees of that semester to college but they said that we can not refund you. Ultimately my one year course incresed and I started to take extra subject to save my total course duration and I did it. But for the extra semester which I have charged the fees (tuetion fees and all for one semster) and college giving us interest of last year fees which is deposited at the time of joining the course. Thus, Can I use that interest amount 7190/- Rs to pay my additional semester fees 23000/-Rs. (approx) to college?

Answer

(Fatwa: 215=217/M)

Interest (usury) money is impure; therefore one must not utilize it in personal needs. Allah Almighty says: but Allah has permitted trade and forbidden usury. (2/275). Therefore, you must not use this amount in your tuition fee because it is also a kind of utilizing interest. Yes, you can distribute the amount among the poor and needy without having any intention of reward:
