Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Question1-In hadith it has been mentioned in the near meaning that when a person visits some ones house then he should take permission three times for entering if permission not given then he should go back, the question is that because in the hadith it mentions the words go back is it permissible , haram, makrooh tahreemi or makrooh tanzihee to knock on some ones door more than three times?Question 2- If a person knocks on some ones door more than three times thinking that the they probably did not hear the three knocks then is it permissible?

Answer

(Fatwa: 318/L=4/TL)

This is etiquette. It teaches us that if anyone is not interested in meeting for any reason whatsoever one should not impose oneself upon him, but he should seek permission thrice. If he is not allowed then he should return since if he is not responded after asking permission thrice it means that the person does not want to allow him:

Imam Nawawi quotes from Ulama that the best thing for such a person (who calls thrice and is not responded) is to return and not to call more.
