Is corneal transplantation lawful for Muslims if corneas are from donated eyes?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
I am working in an eyebank. We have registered 2373 patients for corneal transplantation of which 20-25% are Muslims. The damaged cornea is replaced by a healthy cornea from donated eyes. There is no other substitute for donor tissue. If not cured the person will remain blind and in some cases eyes are required to be eviscerated or enucleated. Is it lawful for needy Muslims to undergo Corneal transplantation as corneas are derived from donated eyes?

Answer

(Fatwa: 986/980=D/1429)

One does not own his or her parts pf the body like eyes, kidney etc; therefore he can not gift it to anyone. It is unlawful to take out cornea from a donated eye and transplant in the eye of other person.
