I am a research student at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, interested to do research work on earthquake .Is it lawful to research on such topics? What Islam says about research? Please suggest me.

Earthquake is a divine punishment. We all should seek refuge in Allah and should avoid committing the sins and disobeying Allah. However, it is alright to research on such topics scientifically.
