What options do I have for contraception?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Does islam has any methods of contraception? I know of Azl, I want to of I can have any other medical procedure for having kids after few years. I have one toddler girl and one boy due in next few days in sha Allah. Alhumdulillah. I have no problem having kids but I have many issues with my health and me and my husband have handled pregnancy and delivery alone. We wont be having any help for our second child too.

I have been sick throughout my pregnancy and I have been severely sick after my 1st delivery too due to post porterm hemorrhage. And this pregnancy I had too many problems on personal level and health issues too.plus my pregnancy and after deluvery days are also too much to handle by my husband alone. We had innumerable misunderstandings in pregnancy and especially after delivery.

They were lot of times where I couldn’t take care of my child due to my sickness. Please help us. We want to have kids but definitely after few years because we have to take care of two kids on our own, we dont have any help which makes thi gs worse at times.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

May Allah bless you with a healthy and pious child and make both the delivery and the postnatal period easy for you. Ameen.

Temporary (reversible) contraception is permissible in your position.

Please refer to the following link http://askimam.org/public/question_detail/24639 for a detailed review of various methods of temporary contraception (condoms, IUD’s, diaphragms, pills, injection, etc.)
