Is it permissible to keep a cactus plant at home?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

I have a certain cactus plant at home given to me as a gift, however recently been told by another that it is not permissible to keep a cactus plant at home. The person has been informed about this by a Moulana who said that it brings misfortune as it is regarded as a plant from Hell/Jahannum.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to keep a cactus plant in one’s home. Good fortune and misfortune happens with the decree of Allah (Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala). The cactus plant does not have anything to do with misfortune. There is no mention of a cactus plant being from Hell. The tree Zakkoom referred to in Surah Saffaat, verses 62- 64 does not refer to the cactus plant.
