Is the effort of Tabligh more effective than being in the company of a Sheikh of Tariqat?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Muhtaram Muftiya Kiram

Assalaamu Aleykum wa Rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

Recently a Jamaah from Uk spent 40 days here in Germany. Ma scha Allah they did a good effort with fikr. But by hearing one of their muzakras I got astonished. The Amir said, that if you spend 40 days in tabligh according to the correct usool, then you benefit so much, that you would have to spend 40 years with a Sheikh e Tariqat to benefit that much. Does that mean, that the effort of tabligh is most effective and by following the correct usool no Sheikh is needed? Or is this statement totally wrong?

Awaiting your urgent replay. Jazakumullahu kheyran.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

As-salaamu `alaykum wa-ramatullahi wa-barakatuh.

Tabligh as well as tazkiya (spiritual cleansing) are both equally important. They compliment each other. If a person engages himself in tabligh as well as spiritually cleanses himself through an expert spiritual guide, that will enhance his noble efforts in tabligh. Likewise, if a person engaged in tazkiya, takes part in tabligh, that will enhance his spiritual cleansing. It is incorrect to emphasis on one branch of Deen while trivialising the importance of other branch of Deen. Tabligh and tazkiya are both the missions of Rasulullah ﷺ. We are advised to adopt a balanced approach in all branches of Deen. Negligence as well as extremism are both incorrect.

And Allah Ta`ala Knows Best.
