Purification of Floor Mats

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

If a floor has impurity and it dries, according to the hadeeth, this will become pureif there’s no stains
and signs of impurity left.

Is it the same ruling with liners which is put on floors within the kitchen and bathroom?

In UK, mojority of people have tile floors, so what they do to prevent the tiles from getting wet is, they will put liners (Thick matts) so water can’t get to the tiles.

Even though these liners are removable with some difficulty due to being spreaded in the entire kicthen and bathroom, but The liners are attached in a way that when you talk to someome, you’ll never hear anyone say, “sit on the liner” they will say “sit on the floor”.

If impurity falls on the liner and dries, will this make it pure just like the ground if there’s no stain and sign of impurity?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If impurity on the earth dries without leaving a trace, it will become pure.[1] This ruling does not extend to floor liners.

If impurity falls on a liner, the impurity must be removed.

And Allah Ta‘ālā Knows Best.
