Nasheed- Joys of life.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Is it permissible to listen to this nasheed “Joys of Life“? I’m not sure whether music or any haram instruments are used in this. It’s too confusing.

Some people in the comment section say it contains music and some say no it’s only voices and some say whether instument or no instrument if it sounds like music it is music even if its with hamd or naat.

Can one listen to it or not?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

At the outset, the purpose of listening to nasheeds is to create the love of Allah Taala and Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam within the hearts of the listeners and to encourage them to follow the noble sunnahs of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam.

Unfortunately, numerous modern-day nasheeds have changed in the following ways:

  1. Use of musical instruments.
  2.  Emulating music. Using sound effects that mimic sounds of musical instruments.
  3.  Many create a background effect in the form of humming and chanting Allah’s name to make the nazam more entertaining, in the manner that background music is used, this is abuse of the name of Allah Taala. The name of Allah Taala is not for the purpose of fun and entertainment.
  4. The focus is given to the tune and not to the meaning.

Referring to your specific query, we have listened to the nasheed in reference-it clearly emulates music- therefore, it is not permissible to listen to this nasheed.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
