Superstitions regarding other creations

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalaamu Alaikum Mufti Sahib…I pray you and your idarah are well.

I have a question re other creation of Allah that people refer to as Aliens.  Some say they are in the ground, others in outer space and some living amongst us. I assume all are possible.

Gog and Magog…could they be a kind of alien race that are underground and will eventually come out from their metal barrier.  Could zulquranain have been a leader of an alien race that built the barrier with their superior technology?

And crop circles…these most certainly are not human created.

Hope you can clarify these issues and shed light on these matters.

JazakAllah

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There were many instances where the Sahabah (رضي الله عنهم) asked certain questions to Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم). Almighty Allah did not respond to the specific queries. Instead, Allah responded in a way that is within the comprehension of mankind and beneficial.

We understand from such instances that we should avoid indulging in issues beyond our understanding and in which there is no benefit. The issues you refer to, aliens and crop circles are beyond our understanding and there is no benefit in engaging in such discussions.

On the issue of Gog and Magog and Zul Qarnain, the Quran refers to them as human beings. They were not an alien race.

The procedure of building the barrier wall is stated in the following verses;

ثُمَّ أَتْبَعَ سَبَبًا {92}حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ بَيْنَ السَّدَّيْنِ وَجَدَ مِنْ دُونِهِمَا قَوْمًا لَا يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ قَوْلًا {93}قَالُوا يَا ذَا الْقَرْنَيْنِ إِنَّ يَأْجُوجَ وَمَأْجُوجَ مُفْسِدُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ فَهَلْ نَجْعَلُ لَكَ خَرْجًا عَلَىٰ أَنْ تَجْعَلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ سَدًّا {94}قَالَ مَا مَكَّنِّي فِيهِ رَبِّي خَيْرٌ فَأَعِينُونِي بِقُوَّةٍ أَجْعَلْ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُمْ رَدْمًا {95}آتُونِي زُبَرَ الْحَدِيدِ ۖ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا سَاوَىٰ بَيْنَ الصَّدَفَيْنِ قَالَ انْفُخُوا ۖ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَعَلَهُ نَارًا قَالَ آتُونِي أُفْرِغْ عَلَيْهِ قِطْرًا {96}فَمَا اسْطَاعُوا أَنْ يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا لَهُ نَقْبًا {97}قَالَ هَٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّي ۖ فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّي جَعَلَهُ دَكَّاءَ ۖ وَكَانَ وَعْدُ رَبِّي حَقًّا {98}

“Then he (Zul-Qarnain) followed a path. (92) Until, when he reached (a pass) between two mountains, he found beside them a people who could hardly understand (his) speech. (93) They said, “O Zul-Qarnain, indeed Gog and Magog are transgressors in the land. May we allocate expenditure for you so that you may erect a barrier between us?” (94) He said, “That (kingdom) which my Lord has established me with is better (than what you offer), but assist me with strength; I will make between you and them a fortified barrier. (95) Bring me sheets of iron” – until when he had leveled (sheets of iron) between the two mountain walls, he said, “Blow (with bellows)”, until when he had made it (like) fire, he said, “Bring me molten copper so that I may pour over it.” (96) So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able penetrate it. (97) (Zul-Qarnain) said, “This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes (the day Gog and Magog will be set free), He will make it level, and the promise of my Lord is true.” (98) (Quran 18:92-98)
