Meeqat to Makkah; Ihram is necessary

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

Assalam mu alaiqum dear respected Mufti saab, i have a question do you have to wear ihram if i’m going from mikat to mecca.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, it is compulsory for an aafaaqi (one who lives outside the boundaries of meeqaat) to wear ihram whenever he intends to enter the boundaries of haram. [i]

If an aafaaqi person enters the boundaries of haram without ihram, then either he has to give damm or return to the meeqat and wear ihram, then re-enter haram. In this case, he does not have to give damm.
