Repeating Wudhu after Watching TV

By Mufti Ebrahim Desai

Q.) 1.) When one watches T.V, Does his or her wudhu become makhrooh or does it break?

2.) If a stranger sees a lady’s hair, does her wudhu become makhrooh or does it break? [A sister, Mauritius]

A.) 1. In principle, when a person commits a sin, it is mustahabb (desirable) to repeat the wudhu. Apart from the fact that many Ulema regard the viewing of TV as not permissible, all are unanimous that TV programs have many immoral things in them, for example, nude or semi nude ads, etc. To view such ads is certainly sinful. Therefore, it is mustahabb to repeat one’s wudhu after viewing television.

2. It is a sin for a female to uncover her hair in public. Therefore, it is mustahabb for her to repeat her wudhu.
