Superfluous Hair: Removing Rear Hair?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have a question regarding the superfluous hair (pubic hair). Is it required that we shave the hair between the buttocks? Isn’t that pubic hair?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

By pubic hair that one is expected to remove, they mean the front private areas. As for removing the hair between the buttocks, Imam Tahtawi mentions in his Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falahthat it is recommended, as it prevents najasa from getting stuck there, and is more clean.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
