Is it permissible to wear eye-liner which contains lanolin oil?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Is it permissible to wear eye-liner which contains lanolin oil?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

Lanolin that is derived from sheep’s wool is pure and halal. Many texts on fiqh mention seven parts of an animal to be haram. The wool or skin is not mentioned as part of these. (Hashiyah Ibn ‘Abidin vol. 6 page. 749]

Besides this, when the rulings of meat are discussed in fiqh texts, the skin of the animal is also mentioned along with meat as a consumable. Hence the lanolin from them is halal.

If the lanolin is from any other source then please let us now.

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam

Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf
