Specifying a Prayer Room at Home?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is is optimal to pray throughout the house, or to have a specific room/area set aside for praying, or does it make no difference?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is recommended for both men and women to have a place set aside in their house, free of things that busy one’s mind and conducive to serenity and contemplation, which one considers one’s place of prayer (musalla). [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

Women can perform their spiritual retreat (i`tikaf) there, though not men. [ibid.]

Walaikum assalam,

Faraz Rabbani.
Amman, Jordan.
