How Do You Dispose of Unwanted Islamic Literature?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Now that I have [these terrible books] I don’t want anyone else to be poisoned by their words as some of them state horrible things contradicting the imams of ‘aqeedah, fiqh and also attacking tasawwuf and its imams. What is the best way to dispose of them? What is the ruling on recycling Islamic books (or any other type of printed material), in particular those with ayats of Qur’an in it in Arabic?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum,

The best thing would be to shred them well, and then to bury them somewhere where they won’t not be walked over indiscriminately. Alternatively, you can burn them, but after shredding.
