Can Men Pray on a rug partially made of Silk?

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Shafiifiqh.com

Question:

Assalamu alaikum,

Is it permissble for men to pray on a prayer rug that is partially made of silk?

Answer:

The Shafi’i madhhab does not differentiate between wearing silk and using it in another manner such as a carpet or prayer mat: both are unlawful for men. However, when the fabric happens to be made partly of silk and partly of another substance, it would be permissible to use it provided that the silk be less than the other substance. Where the silk is more it would not be permissible to use. (Sharh al-Muhadhdhab 4:323)
