Is ‘Ashaz’ a Sahaba’s name? What is the meaning of this Name? Is it Necessary to use some prefix With the Name ‘Ali’? Can A boy be just Named ‘Ali’?

Answer

(Fatwa: 896/650/L=1431)

(1) Ashaj (اشج) is the name of a sahabi that means a wounded person.
(2) You can prefix Ali with Muhammad or Ahmad or suffix it with Akbar or Asghar etc. It is not right to prefix it with Ghulam etc before Ali. If someone is given only the name Ali and there is no prefix or suffix, it too is correct.
