Do you need Wudu to read Quran on a laptop/computer or phone?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu alaykum Mufti Saheb, my question is that do you need wudhu if you are reading quran on the laptop/computer? 2. do you need wudhu if you are reading quran on a phone e.g. Iphone 3. If you are sending a text on a mobile phone/sending a letter (anything that could go on the floor), can we write the name of Allah(on the text etc) or do we have to shorten it e.g. A…. Jazakallah, may allah reward you abundantly,AMEEN

Answer

(Fatwa: 1510/1510/M=1431)

(1-2) It is not a condition to have wudhu merely for the recitation of the holy Quran. One can recite the holy Quran by watching it in the laptop, computer or mobile without wudhu. However, when the Quranic verses appear on the screen it is not lawful to touch the screen without wudhu.
(3) If one fears that the letter will be thrown here and there and it will cause desecration, one should not write Allah’s name in the letter. In the same way, one should avoid writing Allah’s name in mobile messages.
