Ruling on Working in Inbound Tourism

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
I work with inbound tour operators attracting tourists groups from Europe. Is this job permissible?

Answer:
Praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds.

Working with tour operators is based on something lawful, and that is attracting tourists to visit our country and acquaint them with our religion and culture. In fact, this work is useful if we could convey the luminous image of Islam to the hearts and minds of those tourists.

In the meantime, one working in that field should avoid evil acts that could accompany it. For example, mixing with women making a wanton display of their beauty and helping others drink alcohol. A Muslim isn`t allowed to take part in such acts nor help others commit them. However, he should help deliver the true message of Islam to all the people as much as he could. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
