How Much Madhi is Excused?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question:

If one wakes up and finds pre-sexual fluid (madhi) along with the requirement of a ritual bath (ghusl) – must they also wash the fluid before praying? If one did not wash away the madhi, how much madhi is excused such that it does not affect the validity of the prayer?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate,

The Ruling of Removing Filth

It is recommended to remove heavy filth, such as pre-sexual fluid (madhi), if it is less than 5cm in diameter for liquids or 5gm in weight for solids.
[Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]

Note that a prayer performed with this amount of filth is valid without dislike. [Ibn ‘Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

If heavy filth is more than the aforementioned amounts, it is obligatory to remove it, and any prayer performed with that amount of filth is invalid. [Tahtawi/Shurunbulali, Hashiyat Maraqi al-Falah]

Hope this helps
