Should I Untie My Braids for Wudu or for Showering?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Abdul-Rahim Reasat

Question: Assalamu alaykum

Should I untie my braids for wudu or for showering?

Answer: Wa ‘alaykum as-salam wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh

Thank you for your question.

Neither women, nor men have to untie their braids to perform wudu or showering; this is only something men must do when performing an obligatory bath. It is sufficient to wipe a quarter of the head with a moist hand for the wudu to be valid (Shurunbulālī, Marāqī al-Falāḥ)

May Allah grant you the best of both worlds.

Wassalam,
[Shaykh] Abdul-Rahim Reasat
