Q. What is the ruling on using alcohol based medicines including cough syrups and other medicines namely swedish bitters?
A. The Majority of scholars have mentioned that these should only be used when there is no other alternative medicine. Once there are other medicines then one will not be allowed to use those which contain alcohol.
