Keeping the name Hamnah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is it permissible to keep a girls name Hamnah and what does this word mean?

Bismillaah

A: It is permissible to keep the name Hamnah. The name Hamnah refers to a type of fruit (grape/berry). Hamnah (radhiyallahu anha) was a Sahaabiyah in the time of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and she was the sister of Hazrat Zainub bint Jahsh (radhiyallahu anha).

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
