Naats, Nazams, and Nasheeds: Shariah-Compliant Listening and Singing

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: What exactly are naats, nazams and nasheeds and which are contrary to Shariah to listen to or to sing?

Bismillaah

A: The songs that are accompanied with any type of musical instruments whether the actual instruments or background, and when they are sung by young lads with girlish features, or the contents of the song are not right, or the person singing and the listeners are not committed to deen, or the songs are sung in musical tones then these are impermissible.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
