Effect of Nocturnal Emission on Fast – Wet Dream

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Asalamualaikum Hazrat,

Last night, I had a wet dream, but something I re-call quite clearly, I sort of stimulated myself, so I ejaculate, but I was still in sleep mode. I am quite clear about this because otherwise, I’d like to think I would have restrained myself.

Given what’s happened is my fast still valid? If not is qadah, and kaffarah required?

الجواب وبالله التوفيق

If this was ehtalam(nocturnal emission) i.e. involuntary ejaculation during one’s sleep without any intervention, then it will not invalidate the fast, whether it happened during the period of fasting or after one has performed iftar.

However, if the ejaculation is due to the individual’s intervention or their physical action, and it happened before the completion of sehri, then there is no effect on the fast. If however, this action happened after finishing sehri, then the fast has become invalidated and it is wajib for you to perform qadha.
