Advice Needed: Engaged Couple Confused on Priorities – Marriage or Tableegh?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I would like to take this opportunity to seek some advice from you. I’m a lady of 26 years and have been engaged for 7 months. I am afraid we are human and we sometimes fall into the traps of shaitaan, so it was my wish that we have nikaah before we are tempted to zina but my fiance tells me he made a promise to himself and Allah Ta’ala to go for tableegh for 40 days before he gets married. He is planning to go for tableegh in December and that we marry April next year. We are confused on what to do first because for the sake of Allah Ta’ala we want to get married and he wants to go for tableegh. So please advise us on what we can do.

Bismillaah

A: More important than the 40 days is to expedite the nikaah and avoid any premarital relationship.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
