Attending non-Muslim functions

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q:

1. Can a muslim person attend and eat food of other religions (Hindu, Christian, etc) in fuctions like wedding, reception, etc?

2. Is it permissible in Islam for a Muslim to attend and eat food in functions of non-invited parties or strangers?

Bismillaah

A: We are commanded not to befriend disbelievers. Attending their functions and becoming close to them is really not respecting Islamic values.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
