Schools often visit our masjid and they pay for coming in and visit it (classes of around 15 to 25 students and their teachers). At least 10 brothers can alternate themselves, depending on their availability, dedicating their time, sometimes 45 minutes up to 2 hours, and welcoming and introducing the masjid to those schools. Here are my questions: 1) It is lawful taking the money, by the management of the masjid for the masjid, for the visit, considering that we have the opportunity to directly talk with them and let them hear from a Muslim the correct Islamic point of view of their questions? 2) It is lawful for the brother(s) to take some of the amount paid by the school, considering this as a refund for the time wasted, or for any other reason. Here is a brief explanation of the 2° question: I’m working, and I have to living my work to a friend of mine, came to the mosque and spending there 2 hours. I want to be paid for the 2 hours. Or: I’ve to take the bus, and I’m loosing a lot of time, so I want to be paid for doing such thing.

I always hear that one should not take or give interest. My question is, how can you start a business or deploy industry or for that matter do anything that requires capital without paying interest? Actually if you think about it, we are all getting affect by interest one way or other. Our governments go out and borrow money from IMF to pay its bills and give money to the banks for borrowing? So if the government is>borrowing money you can understand the impact it has on all citizens of that country. Please help me understand how you can setup any business in this world without borrowing money (paying interest) unless of course you are Bill Gates.

I would be highly obliged if you please guide me about the foreign exchange trading (hedging, futures, options) and its legitimacy in Islam. Many of my friends are indulged in this business and they argue that it is halal from the sharaih point of view but I am doubtful. I had posted the same question to Mufti taqi Usmani Sahib but after waiting for several days, I could not get answer. So the sooner you would help me, the better it would be for me.
