Will I be sinful to go to Tabligh Jamaat against my parents wishes?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Question:

Assalamualaikum.

I have been on tabligh jamaat a few times and now want to go on a 4 month jamaat in summer 2011. my parents are Brelvi and are against jamaat. am I sinful for going against my parents wishes? my parents are not elderly and can take care of themselves and my older brother also lives with us and is able to see to their needs. I feel the work of dawah having a big effect on my Imaann but am worried that I have committed a major sin?

Jazahkallah

Answer:

Doing the work of Da’wah is very virtuous. Your parents should not stop you from doing it, especially when they have someone to look after them. Try your best to keep them happy. However if you can’t win them over and you went in Jamaat against their wish, I have hope you won’t be sinful in the eyes of Allah.
