Khatm[Completion] of the Qur’an as a Group: an Innovation?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: Assalam alaykum

I’ve been told by some divergent muslims that it is an innovation to finish the Qur’an as a group where for example a group of ten ladies read a juz each until we read the entire Qur’an and then make the khatim supplication at the end.

Is it true?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

It would be from the sunna to hold such gatherings.

In general, you should ignore what they have to say. If you have a question, you should resort to reliable scholars.

And Allah alone gives success.

wassalam,
