Do I Need to Work an Extra Hour on Fridays to Compensate the Time Lost?

Question: Assalamu alaykum

I work in a technology company. On Fridays, when I go for Juma prayer, I will be away from work for about an hour over and above the typical lunch break. Do I need to work an extra hour on Fridays to compensate the time lost?

Answer: Wa alaikum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

The short answer is that one should check with one’s employer to determine what they allow. Perhaps they would overlook the hour lost and allow you to take your time in attending Juma prayer. Or perhaps they would require working an extra hour, as you suggested. Another possibility is that they would accept neither of the above, and hence you would need to find a way to complete Juma prayer within your permitted lunch break.
