What Should I Do After Performing the Forgetfulness Prostrations in an Incorrect Manner?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Assalam alaykum

What should I do if I have realized that I may have been performing the forgetfulness prostration incorrectly a number of months later?

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

Your prayer would be unaffected by your performance of the forgetfulness prostrations (sujud al-sahw) in an incorrect manner. The proper way to perform them is to (1) say one salam after the tashahhud, (2) prostrate twice, and (3) then recite from the beginning of the tashahhud until the end of the prayer.
