Najasa: A Soiled Carpet

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

How can I remove najasa that has gotten onto a fixed carpet? Is there any way to do this without having to remove the whole carpet? Please help. I’m stuck.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is not very difficult, inshaAllah:

1. It is best to minimize the filth (najasa) by wiping away its traces, using a moist cloth, for example.

2. Determine the affected area. Then, pour water over that area. Soak up the water with a cloth, until the carpet is no longer dripping wet. Do this three times, in total. After this, the carpet has been rendered pure (tahir). [This is mentioned in Maraqi al-Falah, Radd al-Muhtar, and elsewhere]

Wassalam.
Faraz Rabbani
