Is it permissible to have grafts from pigs, for example biosynthetic heart valves and skin grafts?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Pig tissue is used as grafts in some medical conditions such as valvular heart disease and several skin conditions. Is it permissible for a muslim to receive such treatment?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

This matter has been discussed in detail by contemporary scholars. If the alternatives to a pig valve aren’t available or as effective (such that there will be harm or hardship), then it would be permitted to use a pig valve.
