Clearing debts before Hajj?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Ilyas Patel

If one is paying a mortgage on his house, and performs Hajj, will his Hajj be accepted? And if one goes on Hajj using a loan on which he must pay interest, will his Hajj be accepted?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the name of Allah Most Kind Merciful

I hope you are fine and in the best of health and iman.

A.1

Yes, one’s hajj with paying a conventional mortgage will be accepted. It is a different matter that he is paying mortgage based on interest.

A.2

It is somewhat disliked (makruh tanzih) to take out a loan and perform hajj, though it will be valid and it is a different matter that taking out an interest-based loan will lessen his rewards.

And Allah knows best
