Would Asr prayer count if a person starts it somewhere before dusk & finishes it only after

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Would Asr prayer count if a person starts it somewhere before dusk & finishes it only after the sunset?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It would be a current performance.

However, one would be sinful for two matters:

a) delaying performance of Asr until the prohibited time (which is sinful and prohibitively disliked even when one is busy) [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar]

b) not completing the prayer within the time, which is obligatory. [Shurunbulali, Imdad al-Fattah]

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
