Menstruation: Touching Books of Invocations

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have many dua books which are in Arabic and contain some verses of the Qur’an. Is it permissible for me to hold these books during menses, considering that they contain only some verses and not the whole Qur’an?

Also I have some dua books which do not contain any verses of the Qur’an, they simply say which verses to read. However, they do have various other duas in them in Arabic. Is it ok to hold these types of dua books? Also, is wudu valid when one is having their menses?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

It is permitted to hold dua/wird books with Qur’an in them, in a state of menstruation.

It is permitted to recite duas from the Qur’an, with the intention of supplication, though not with the intention of reciting the Qur’an.

Wudu is not valid during menstruation. However, it is recommended that women perform wudu, and sit in their normal place of prayer for the extent of performing each prayer, supplicating and making dhikr. There is great reward in this, though most neglect it.

Like Sayyidi Abd al-Ghani al-Nablusi said, “Be with Allah / You’ll find Allah with you.”

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
