Can any tree twigs be used for siwaak and which ones should be avoided?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Salaam,

Can we take twigs/branches off any tree to do siwaak with? And which trees can we use from and which not?
(I.e. Fruit trees, Back Garden trees etc.)

Wasalaam.

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

It is permissible to use the Miswaak of all types of tree twigs provided these are not harmful to the teeth or poisonous. The Miswaak of the Al Arak tree or also known as Peelo (in Urdu) is Masnun.

‘Abdullah ibn Mas`ud (RadhiyAllahu Anhu) said: “I used to gather Siwak sticks from the Arak tree for the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).” (Musnad Ahmad Vol.1 Pg.420)

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best
