Can I pray while sitting in a chair with back support due to illness?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
Due to illness I cannot stand and pray my salah so I offer my salah by sitting down on the floor. The trouble is that I when offering excessive salah whilst sitting on the floor I get backache, which gets bad and stops me from offering fard salah and to sit normally.

Would I in this situation be allowed to complete my fardh salah whilst sitting on the floor and be allowed to offer my QADAH SALAH (many) sitting in a comfortable chair with back support? Otherwise I would become more immobile.

I would appreciate your prompt answer and I also request your du’as.

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

If you are slightlty inconvenienced in doing Qiyam (standing posture in Salah), without fearing any increase in your pain or expressing severe pain, and able to fulfil the Fardh requirement of Qiyam (standing posture in Salah), then it will be incumbent upon you to stand to the extent of your utmost ability after which only will you be permitted to sit down and complete your Salah with full Ruku and Sajdah.

Also, a person will only be excused in fulfilling the Fardh requirement of Qiyam if a person is overtaken by severe illness or weakness due to which he is unable to stand, or fears his illness or pain increasing if he has to stand in Salah. He will then complete his Salah in the sitting posture and thereby comply with the requisites of Ruku and Sajdah as well. (Qudoori Pg.51, Nurul Idhah Pg. 102)

Allah Ta’ala says,

“Allah intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you.” (2:185)

So don’t make things difficult on yourself by performing too many Prayers at one time, but complete those which you are capable of performing.

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
