Communicating freely before nikaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I have found a pious partner الحمد لله, Shukr for the duah Mufti it has proven effective. This lady with whom I am happy to be married. I have already proposed and she has said yes… الله أكبر Now, What am I to do Mufti? I surely have to spend some time with her to get to know her … (going out with her and maybe having lunch with her?) I have noted this as she has grown fond of me during the little time I have spent with her. How should I go about acquainting myself with her so we can get to know one another better? Within a legal framework.

A: Immediately get into nikaah. The nikaah will open the roads to communication and acquaintance. To communicate and acquaint yourselves freely before nikaah is haraam and forbidden.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
