Extending an invitation to one returning from Hajj or Umrah

Q: Is it haram or in any way wrong to give gifts or arrange dinners for those who are coming and going for hajj? For example, if a friend of mine has returned from hajj, is it wrong (from an Islamic point of view) to give her a gift?

A: Out of happiness to extend an invitation to the one returning from Hajj or umrah is permissible provided it is not regarded as necessary. However giving gifts at this occasion is not an established practice in Deen.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
