Giving a Discount to one’s creditor for something he wishes to purchase

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: My mother knew I was owing someone money so when the person came to buy from the place she works, she gave a discount which I paid. I only knew of this when she told me which was after she sold the item with a discount. So will this be valid?

Bismillaah

A: If it was in any way in consideration of the loan that was forwarded then this is not right. It has a semblance with riba (interest).
