Zakaat on a House Not Yet Registered On One’s Name

Q: Is zakaat paid on money that has been given to buy a house but the house is not yet on my name?

A: The zakaat is not payable. The house is already purchased. The house being in your name is just a legal procedure.

( ولا في ثياب البدن ) المحتاج إليها لدفع الحر والبرد ابن ملك ( وأثاث المنزل ودور السكنى ونحوها ) وكذا الكتب وإن لم تكن لأهلها إذا لم تنو للتجارة. (رد المحتار 2/264)
