Zakaat on Jewellery Over One’s Debts

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a person has a huge loan that he has to pay monthly, does zakaat become obligatory on the gold jewellery that is under his possession.

A: If after deducting the debt from the amount of jewellery and zakaatable wealth in your possession, you are still left with less than the nisaab amount then zakaat will not be compulsory.
